Like collagen, elastin is a substance that occurs naturally in the body and is relevant in the ageing process. You may have heard it being talked about (especially in the skincare advertisements) but what exactly is it and how does your body’s natural ageing process affect elastin? At the Dr. Nima Clinic, we have treatments that can help to trigger natural elastin production. If you’re thinking of booking an appointment but want to know more about elastin, we’ve put together this article to explain exactly what it is and why it’s so beneficial for your skin!
Elastin – what is it?
As we mentioned above, this is a substance that your body produces naturally. It is a protein, like collagen, that is found throughout the body – adding elasticity and resilience to your arteries, lungs, tendons, skin and ligaments. It is particularly important in the skin as this protein is what helps our skin to stretch and then fall back into position.
Why is it so important when it comes to skincare?
Elastin is important when it comes to our appearance. Why? Well, its very purpose is to allow our skin tissue to stretch and then rebound back into position. The elastin molecules are designed to be stretchy and flexible, just like a rubber band. This process happens every day, whether it’s when you smile, frown or laugh. Unfortunately the ageing process can affect the amount of elastin that we produce in our bodies. The elastin molecules become worn down and damaged as we age, due to natural wear and tear. This means that our skin loses its elasticity, struggling to bounce back into position. As a result, this causes the formation of fine lines and wrinkles in the skin.
What treatments can help?
There are plenty of treatments available that are designed to tackle this ageing process and trigger natural elastin production. At the Dr. Nima Clinic, the main types of procedures that we recommend to our clients are Morpheus8 and Forma. Forma is a non-evasive treatment that uses subdermal heating techniques to generate elastin and improve skin tautness. It helps give a more youthful appearance to the forehead, upper and lower eyelids, nasolabial folds, jowls and neck. Morpheus8 targets deeper dermal layers using a combination of microneedling and radiofrequency waves. It helps to trigger the natural elastin and collagen production process in your skin. This improves skin firmness, tightness and gives a lifted effect overall.
For more information on Morpheus8 and Forma, or if you want to book a treatment in London with Dr. Nima, get in touch or send us a DM on Instagram. We look forward to welcoming you to the Dr. Nima Clinic!
If you are looking for Profhilo in London, you can book in for this at the Dr. Nima Clinic with Dr. Nima himself. A very popular treatment, think of it as an injectable moisturiser that improves skin hydration, complexion and laxity all at once! Find out more information about Profhilo in London with Dr. Nima.
What is Profhilo?
This is a hyaluronic acid (HA) treatment in an ‘ultra-pure’ form that works to hydrate and moisturise beneath the skin. Therefore unlike traditional moisturisers that we rub into our skin, Profhilo instead targets and treats beneath this layer of skin for hydration from the inside. It is suitable for both male and female clients and brings noticeable benefits for clients of all ages.
How does it work?
An injectable gel treatment, Profhilo is injected into the skin (most commonly in the face and neck areas) to deliver the hyaluronic acid directly to the areas that need it most. This then gets to work to flood the areas with moisture – drastically improving skin hydration levels (regardless of the starting condition of your skin). Therefore everyone can benefit from the technology and application of Profhilo as part of their supreme skincare.
What are the benefits?
Along with the benefits of hydration and moisture as mentioned above; Profhilo also helps to remodel older and sagging skin, it works to improve the laxity and texture of your skin and also improve the firmness of your skin. To top it all off, the process stimulates both collagen and elastin – promoting hydration even deeper within the dermal layers. As you can see, it brings many desirable and important benefits to your skin.
